Distribution Server

CPS ITS assigns to each school (and in most cases physically places in the school, rack-mounted in the MDF) a Windows server, maintained and run by ITS, and meant to provide many of the services for computers (and some users) within the building that relate the school's infrastructure to that of CPS in general and to ITS's policies and practices.

Some of the functions of the Distribution Server are carried out more or less "behind the scenes", but it also runs a web server interface, and the pages it generates and serves are mainly meant for interaction by the school's personnel, in particular the Tech Coordinator.

The general term most used by ITS is "distribution server", but based on the other functions of these (and on network names or web addresses), both ITS and school-based personnel use a variety of other terms, including:

  • Your ADM01 ("a - d - m - oh -one") server
  • Compliance page, compliance server, compliance report server, compliance site
  • OTS server, ITS server, redistribution server, updates server
  • Local computer-management server
  • Remediation server, remediation site

Restricted Access

New as of Fall 2011: The pages have been somewhat redesigned, and a sign-in has been imposed on all areas of the ADM01's. CUIP is working out how our NSPs can still have access when needed. One aspect is to have the school techco or the CUIP TRA sign in for you. Also we can download the scripts for Remedation or installation of Deep Freeze or Insight, etc., and share them thru Dropbox or Google Docs. (Caution: Some of these -- such as Deep Freeze installer -- are very school-specific and would need to be carefully renamed to reflect the school.)
